Rashin Coatie is the Scottish version of Cinderella (askepot). And it’s about a father (who is a king, at the same ting), whose wife had died, and the only thing he has left, is his daughter. The father/king marries a new woman, who has 3 ugly girls. But this woman/stepmother and her girls are so envy and evil to the King’s daughter. Therefore they let the King’s daughter work hard in the kitchen wearing a garment of rush, while they themselves don’t do anything besides to be evil to the King’s daughter and call her Rashin Coatie because of her wearing. Then there is a big Yule/Christmas engagement in the Kirk/church, where the beautiful prince is coming. But Rashin Coatie will not be able to get there, because she is too ugly, after what the 3 girls and their mother said. But when the others had set off to the Kirk/church in their fine clothes, Rashin Coatie goes to her gray stone. Hereunder she has the bones from her red calf, her mother gave her before she died, and which should be able to fulfil wishes. So Rashin Coatie says to the red calf’s bones that she wanted to go to the Kirk/church. The wish became true, and Rashin Coatie came to the Kirk, as the grandest and most beautiful lady. The prince is getting in love with rashin coatie, but mistakes her with one of the stepmother’s girls, because she fitted the slipper Rashin Coatie lost on her way back, and thereby the prince was going to marry her. But on the way to the Kirk, a bird begins to sing that his real love, is sitting in a kitchen. Afterwards the slipper just jumped onto Rashin Coatie feet. And Rashin Coatie and the prince married each other.
