Hejsa skal sætte denne her tekst til nutid er der nogen som vil hjælpe. Teksten er :
Captaon James Cook was the epitome of a bold explorer. Caring little for reward or recognition, he look undertooks his long voyages prompted only by a love of adventure and an unquenchable curiosity.
A man of vast mathematical knowledge and marine surverying abilities, Cook explored the entire far southern Pacific Ocean. From west to east, he explored the entire area, mapping littleknown island and discovering several new ones. His map were so accurate that they differ little from those in use today.
In 1796, Cooks sailed into Oahu`s. Walmea Bay. At that time, he observed a rather astounding sight: Several men were riding atop waves, three to five times larger than themselves, at surrounding beaches. The vision was truly remarkable, but it was unfortunately not one which Cook was able to ponder for long. During a trip into one the bays of the Big Island to recover a stolen boat, Cook was stabbed in the back by warrior.
Decidedly few warrios are in evidence in Hawaoo today - unless one counts those in the Armed Forces who are stationed, or on vacation. Surfers, however, are in abundance in the state.
Indeed, the sport attracts more enthusiasts with the passing of each year.
According to Hawaii legend, more than a thousand years ago ancient Polynesians stood up to ride waves on dug-out koa wood trunks and huge palm fronds. During the 19th century, surfing became known as the "Sport of Kings" as several members of royalty rode waves for recreation.
