You come home after a tough day. You are tired but very happy – you’re in love. The sweetest boy at school has smiled to you. You place your backpack in the corner and go to your stereo where you turn on the music. You choose the sweetest love song and the tones flow slowly out into your room and slowly take place in your head. The sweet tones make you want to dance. You close your eyes and the music swings you around – it makes you feel happiness and love inside.

Music has always been a part of humans and particularly young persons’ lives. It has always been important only the genre has changed. People create music and music creates people. It means that a kind of music attracts different types of people and helps them to find their personalities, their style and their attitude.
A song can give a political or religious message. Many young people world wide listen to, for example, Green day because they have political messages, specially facing the United states’ and George Bush’s politic, in their lyrics.
Songs to support things have become a more normal thing. Today you can buy a single and then support poor people or victims of a disaster.

Music got many functions but an important factor is feelings. There are many feelings involved in music and that is what, especially, many young people use the music to.
The music “understands” their feelings. Young people hear music after what mood they are in and it can calm them down or make them angrier and more upset, it can reinforce and describe their feelings and emotions as it does in the example in the introduction of this text. Music is a good way to makes young people think and let them get their ideas to find a way to get over something bad.
Another example would be if the person had broken up with the guy instead. The person would listen to music about unrequited love where a singer sings about the feelings to be crossed in love.

That function of music many people are using. If you see a movie the music is placed as it fits the feelings the instructor wants us to see/feel.
Music is everywhere, not only in the movies but also in stores and in commercials you are getting bombed with music. In H&M and in other stores, it is not an accidental what they play – they play something that, in some way, makes the young girls want to buy their clothes.
In a commercial the music part will stay on your mind and if you hear the song in the radio you will think of the commercial you saw it in.

Another function of music is as an entertainment or to give a rhythm. Many of the young people who do exercise use music to keep their pulse up, to find a rhythm and get entertained.
The rhythm is important. At a party the music gives people the rhythm and makes them dance. It makes a mood. If it is a quiet song people dance slowly but if it is a fast song people will get wild.

Today music is a bigger factor than for only 50 years ago. Today there are music videos and almost every young people got a Mp3 player.
The Mp3 player gives opportunities to take the music with you and it is quite normal to listen to music on your way in the car, bus, train or by walking.
It has become much more easy to use the effect of music all the time and we do.
