This paper is about PCOS-affected women suffering from involuntary childlessness. With the intent of finding the cause of involuntary childlessness, the paper starts out by giving a short explanation of the sickness PCO and PCOS, which is the most widespread hormone disturbance among women.
Afterwards comes an explanation of how an ordinary ovum- and foetus development would happen. During normal conditions and normal hormone influence, there will be released a mature ovum in the middle of every menstruation period. If this ovum is fertilised by a sperm cell it will lead to cell partitioning which will lead to pregnancy, which within nine months will develop into a living fully developed foetus. Subsequent the paper feature a discussion which explains why a woman with PCOS often is involuntary childless. This is caused by insulin resistance, which leads to hormone disturbance and thereby lacking ovulation. Lacking ovulation is the reason of the affected fertility with a PCOS affected woman. In the end of the paper is an evaluation of which fertility measures that would help the woman to become pregnant and a fulfilled pregnancy. When the problem lies within the lacking ovulation, as mentioned earlier, the problem is easy to solve, it can be treated with a hormone treatment, which can trigger ovulation. If this isn’t succeeded this treatment can be combined with other forms of treatment such as insemination or in some cases egg transplantation.
