It's as if, all Americans have entered into a contract with each other that with freedom we are born, and that you must work for money. The American dream says that human beings can do everything, if they are willing to work. The Hope, about that the dream can come true, exist, no matter (whether) one begs oneself to a hunk of bread on the street or manages to serve the dream prospects on a silver tray . The society gives opportunities to the individual: The Possibility to reach the top and the possibility to chase your dreams. But freedom cannot be given. A lot of young American thinks that in America many things are much easier with the wallet brimful of money. But is it true?
There are many questions to give an opinion on, when you travel from Copenhagen and to the American west coast for your holiday.
Is it for instance a “bankrupt-statement”, when you become aggressive in defiance of your solidary and tolerant attitude to life suddenly and is marked by recurring obsessions over the ahead-sitting fellow passenger, who closest is choked in something, which resembles the wire to my iPod?
Is it a bankrupt statement, when all tolerance has disappeared, when a complex inters active remote control techno-dances through various television-menus, and ends up with only showing films and trivia questions in German?
Shouldn’t you as a Danish high school student in the real world not, preserved in Roskilde-mud, euforized by rock and dancing around an over dimensioned fire?
But when you rummage round with a real American dream hidden in the stomach, a dream defined at stars with surfer attitudes, cruising in show-off cars - or quarters, where a weak sweetish smell forces forward an inner sound of an acoustic Bob Dylan?
If "Beverly Hills 90210" till each a time does trump Beastie Boys? If you can drive around in best star-stalker-style in Beverly Hills? If you constantly see wings from an extensive number of American series that nobody else see? And if you can continue without problems to go - with full focus at Hollywood's star-imprisoned pavement, without finding out that a center disappears farther and farther away?
What then?
Well, there may not be any doubt, that this high school student and the rest of the family have taken the right place for their holiday vacation. Even though the family's youngest insists on a reconstruction of the American national-snack after cruel experiences with liquid honey: The hole in donut's and bagels are to be abolished!
