Winnie-The-Pooh
Review of the book Winnie-The-Pooh.
Title: Winnie-The-Pooh
Author: A.A. Milne
Year: First published October 14th 1926
Main characters: Christoffer Robin, a young boy, his teddy bear called Winnie-The-Pooh and all their friends. Winnie-The-Pooh is a bear who loves honey of course. Actually he loves to eat so much that once he was stuck in the hole of the rabbit, Rabbit’s home, but then he stops eating for a week and finally he gets out.
Summery of the story: The story is mainly a story told by one, whom we don’t know, but we do know that he’s very fond of Christoffer Robin.
We meet Piglet, who is so afraid, when Christoffer Robin isn’t near him, although he is three, or was it four years old? Well, he doesn’t quit remember.
Piglet isn’t the only one of Pooh’s friends. There’s Eeyore, the donkey, who is so sad all the time, but on his birthday, when Pooh and Piglet gives him a balloon and a jar, he is happy.
Then there is Rabbit, we mustn’t forget him. He isn’t very clever, but he always has a plan – and relatives too.
When everything’s calm Kanga and her son Roo come to the forest. Pooh, Piglet and Rabbit decide to kidnap Roo so they can “blackmail” Kanga to leave the forest. The plan doesn’t work out, but it turns out fine anyway, because Roo and Rabbit become great friends, and Kanga and Pooh become great friends.
Later in the story they all go on an expotition (Pooh never really gets that, it’s called expedition) to find The North Pole. When none of them know how it looks, Pooh finds a pole, and they decide that, it is The North Pole. If you go to the 100 Acre Forest you might find a sign saying:
“NORTH POLE
DICSOVERED By
PooH
PooH FOUND IT”
(You might notice the spelling isn’t all correct, but Christoffer Robin is the only one who can spell ”correctly” in the forest.)
A few days after the North Pole is discovered, it starts raining for many days. Poor Piglet is surrounded by water and needs immediate help. He sends a message in a bottle asking for help. Pooh finds it, but the fact that he can’t read, makes the situation a bit difficult. He takes a jar and uses it as boat (With the name The Floating Bear). He reaches Christoffer Robin and he figures out Piglet needs help. Pooh gets a fantastic idea again; they could use the umbrella as a boat; it should carry the both of them. In the beginning it is a bit problematic, but The Brain of Pooh (the umbrella’s name) is just perfect. They rescue Piglet and Christoffer Robin gives Pooh a party because of his courage and great ideas in such difficult times.
Pooh Bear, Winnie-The-Pooh, F.O.P (friend of Piglet’s), R.C. (Rabbit’s companion), P.D. (pole discoverer) and E.C. and T.F. (Eeyore’s comforter and Tail-finder) turns out not to be ‘a bear of no brain’ as Christoffer Robin claims. But he shows that by giving him a pencil case with pencils marked “B” for Bear, “HP” for Helping Bear and “BB” for Brave Bear.
Did you like the story? Why/ why not? : I liked it because it’s a cute story. Their innocence is adorable. But I didn’t like it in the end, because the author keeps repeating herself in a way that’s very annoying, in the beginning you don’t notice, but in the end it started bugging me a lot.
Would you recommend the story? : I would definitely have recommended the story if I read it twenty years ago, but now it’s too old. It was a children’s book to start with, but a child would never understand this.
