William McGrath was a protestant police officer and died in duty when he had comed upon two men who were booby-trapping a car. William McGrath would save innocent people and died when he was pulling the car of the street.

When Billy comes home from school he is all exited because he and Jimmy Culrose are equal in English, Billy does not see Billy as a catholic but as a schoolmate. But Billy’s first reaction to his mothers telling about the accident is that it is the Catholics and them Culroses fault that his father is dead. Mrs McGrath tells him that they are friends with the Culroses but Billy’s continues saying they are Catholics and has killed his father.
The religion has an important role, you can also see in the text when the Reverend Thomas McBride comes over to Mrs McGrath, she verbal attacks him. She will not listen to his religious words, because she can not see, what he means with them. Even at the funeral she does not understand how the Reverend can say it is Gods will. She does not think that the religion can help her move on, after her husband's death. The religion has brought up the war, so she can not see how it can help her now. The religion can not give her any comfort.

But Siobhán Culrose can give her comfort. She has a great importance in the story. She is there after the funeral with her strong arms and lets Mrs McGrath and Billy cry out in her arms. Siobhán Culrose appears as something safe and secure, her arms where everything is going to be better. Mrs McGrath finds out that Soibhán Culrose also has lost her housband, he was shot by the army. Soibhán Culrose hated so much after her housbands death exactly as Mrs McGrath hates much. Soibhán Culrose began thinking at that time, why spend all time in hating when you can think positive instead of, and I think this is a turning point in Mrs McGrath’s life. The last line in the text says it all:

“We’ll do that, she said quickly. We’ll keep the faith”

They talk together about the whole thing and found out, that they have the same thoughts about this 'war' between the two different religions. They have so much in common with each other, but their different religions have separated them. Now they talk together as friends and forget that they have different religions. It is not the religion, which matter, but the persons themselves.

I think the message of the story is forgiveness. To forgive each other and move on with our life.
It is better to talk about troubles instead of fighting the troubles. It does not matter if you are a catholic or a protestant. It is the human beings that matters.

William McGrath was a protestant police officer and died in THE LINE OF duty when he CAME upon two men who were booby-trapping a car. William McGrath would/ WANTED TO (Du roder meget rundt i tiderne. Hvilken tid skal den skrives i?) save innocent people and died when he was pulling the car of the street.

When Billy comes home from school he is all exited because he and Jimmy Culrose are equal in English, Billy does not see Billy as a catholic but as a schoolmate. But Billy’s first reaction to his mother telling about the accident is that it is the Catholics and THE Culroses fault that his father is dead. Mrs McGrath tells him that they are friends with the Culroses but Billy continues saying they are Catholics and HAVE(kongruens, HAS er 3.person ental) killed his father. Religion (hvis det er religion som koncept er det uden THE) has an important role, you can also see in the text when the Reverend Thomas McBride comes over to Mrs McGrath, she verbalLY(VERBALLY er et adverbium og siger noget om ATTACKS) attacks him. She will not listen to his religious words, because she CANNOT(staves i et ord) see, what he means BY them. Even at the funeral she does not understand how the Reverend can say it is Gods will. She does not think that religion can help her move on, after her husband's death. Religion has brought up the war, so she can not see how it can help her now. Religion can not give her any comfort.

But Siobhán Culrose can give her comfort. She PLYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE in the story. She is there after the funeral with her strong arms and lets Mrs McGrath and Billy cry out in her arms. Siobhán Culrose appears as something safe and secure, her arms where everything is going to be better. Mrs McGrath finds out that Soibhán Culrose HAS ALSO(ordene er byttet om) lost her husband (stavefejl), he was shot by the army. Soibhán Culrose hated so much after her husband's(stavefejl+mangel på apostrof) death exactly LIKE Mrs McGrath DOES. Soibhán Culrose began TO THINK at that time, why spend time hating when you can think positive THINGS instead, and I think this is a turning point in Mrs McGrath’s life. The last line in the text says it all:

“We’ll do that, she said quickly. We’ll keep the faith”

They talk together about the whole thing and FIND out, that they have the same thoughts about this 'war' between the two different religions. I think the message of the story is forgiveness. To forgive each other and move on with our life.
It is better to talk about troubles instead of fighting the troubles. It does not matter if you are a Catholic or a Protestant(religiøse betegnelser er altid med stort . It is the human beings that matter.(uden S)
