In the contemporary world a permissive parenting style comes first among the options of the upbringing strategy. If the parents choose to adhere to this style, they allow children freely express themselves; they do not enforce clear rules of behavior. The occurrence in Son of Satan cannot take place if the parenting were another character than the above description.
Son of Satan is a short story about three odd boys writing by Charles Bukowski. The narrator is eleven years old and his mates, Hass and Morgan, are both twelve years old so it may be safely said that they don’t have plenty of experience of life. The three buddies gang up on Simpson, an easy victim as he’s a loner, obviously because he has freckles, moreover, Simpson claims he slept with a girl under the narrator’s house. Suddenly the boys decide to hold a kangaroo court and Simpson’s sentence is pronounced – he should hang. The situation for Simpson appears miserable for the reason that none of the boys seems to regret their headlong decision. However, when Simpson is hanging on tiptoe and the three rebellious boys runs away the narrator walks softly back and secretly releases poor Simpson on his promise to he wouldn’t tell anyone about the narrator’s mercy. The narrator cannot stay any longer on the scene of crime so he takes off and by the time he arrives at home his father wants to have a serious conversation with him. The conversation between the father and his son develops into a disaster where knocks and kicks were distributed.
As already mentioned this text deals with three boys in the age of eleven and twelve respectively. Groups like these can be dangerous because it’s very easy to give in to peer pressure. Peer pressure is when friends persuade you to doing something that you do not want to do. Although, sometimes you want to do it, and you just don't have the courage to do it and your friends talk you into it. Peer Pressure can be broken down into two areas – good peer pressure and bad peer pressure. Son of Satan involves entirely bad peer pressure as they one by one seem to hesitate on some occasions but they won’t allow each other to back out. The messages are very superior but what’s more important it’s bright and clear shinning through. The author give parenting a high priority and makes it clear that it’s crucial if you’re setting bounds to the crafty children and he’s priorities peer pressure equally.
The marvelous parents in this story have been giving their children a too free hand and the children cannot handle it and in this situation they are actually coming into a criminal running. What if the boys had killed Simpson – what a start of life! They couldn’t change it no matter how much they would regret it.
