This story deals with a man called Dave Shaw. He is 50 years old and is a diving professional. One day he decides to beat the world record in cave diving and to bring the dead body of an other diver back to his own parents. The other diver is named Deon Dreyer and he is only 20 years old. He drowned in pain ten years ago when he was on his summer vacation at ‘Boesmansgat’.
But even though his dead body lies in a wetsuit 271 meters under the water and the risk of serious injury is big, Dave decides to recover him, with help from a 25 member’s crew.
One morning, without having noticed his wife, Dave Shaw began his diving to recover Deon and to beat the world record. When Dave finally reached the dead body, his task was to put him in a green bag and bring him up to the first level of the relay race. But Dave never came so far.
Shirley, who was a good friend of Dave, was the first person to help Dave and bring the body further. He rapidly noticed that something was wrong because he couldn’t see Shaw’s lamp and he attempted immediately to rescue his friend. But Shirley gave up when he reached 250 meters because his own life suddenly was in danger.
First a couple of days later realized the outside world that Dave Shaw has planned his own death, because he meticulous instructed that no one should save him, if it all went wrong. He had also made a call to the priest in his home city and had told him, he should make the call to his wife, when the situation was over.
But Dave got never buried in the sea floor. The police found him and Deon under a rocky edge near the waters surface.
