Problem statement: The purpose of this project is to examine the creation of identity in the late modern society. The examine of the identity creation is based on the increasing individualization which the late modern society is characterized by.
Approach: To approach the problem, I have explained relevant theories concentrated on the individualization and identity creation in the late modern society. Furthermore I have chosen to analyze and interpret “Domino” by Iselin C. Hermann. In the analysis and interpretation I examine and include relevant theories. Finally by examine various factors such as individualization, the individual pace of change and the countless possibilities, I discuss which consequences these above factors have on the late modern society and its individuals.
Results/Conclusion: The disintegration of the traditional communities has creates a growing individualist. In the late modern society do a liberated individual lives. This individual faces a major project - to creates themselves. The truth is no longer absolute and therefore we are forced to examine everything around us. The pace of change can lead to a fragmented individual who lose the sense of coherence in its life. In addition this there will be a wish for some common standards and values. A wish for others to make the right choice for one. In a society combined by the narcissism of individualization, the change of the velocity of incoherent self-understanding and the many choices doubts will an insecure individual in an insecure society be created.
