This paper revolves around A Clockwork Orange, which is a dystopia, written by Anthony Burgess in 1962.
The novel raises great questions of freedom, autonomy and what it means to be evil.
It encourages reflections on free will and determinism in society and with the critical assessment of behaviorism, it becomes an example of a literary work, that sets an important social problem under discussion. The assignment begins with an account of the psychological term “conditioning”, which is derived from Behaviorism. The study investigates how the concept of conditioning was discovered through experiments, and who discovered it.
Additionally, an account of group processes is given, which is followed by an explanation of the concept of evil.
Next follows an analysis and interpretation of the novel, whereas psychological theory is included, focusing on the critical issues presented in the book, specifically whether man consists of good and evil and whether he has free will. It is then investigated whether man's freewill can overcome conditioning and make him the man he never really was in the first place.
Lastly the method of treatment, used on Alex is discussed, and also whether the same treatment could be used on violent criminals today.
- udover stavefejl, kunne det være fedt hvis i ville fortælle om det passer på kriterierne til et abstract :)
Thx!
