Obamas background
Barack Hussein Obama was born August 4, 1961 in Hawaii. His mother Ann Dunham was born in Kansas. Her family also traces to Germany and Ireland. His father, Barack Obama, was from Kenya.
Childhood
Of his early childhood Obama recalled, that his father was black as pitch, and his mother white as milk. He has described his struggles to reconcile the many different perceptions in the society of his multicultural heritage. He also struggled to figure out his identity, whether he was black or white.
In his childhood Hawaii offered him to experience many different cultures living side by side.

Career
Obama Graduated in political science from Columbia University in 1983 and after that he worked to improve conditions in a poor neighborhood in the southern Chicago. Later he joined a law firm that works with civil rights.
He has been member of the Illonois Senate from 1997 and United States Senator from 2004. In 2007 he announced his candidacy for president and in January the 20th 2009 Obama became president of the United States.
Obama’s political interest and Conviction
Civil rights movement
The foundation of his success was created by Martin Luther King and other black leaders who fought for civil rights just as Obama was born. And since Obama was elected there has been a renewed focus on the civil rights movement.
Now he will try to minimize racial discrimination in law enforcement

Welfare reform
Obama is trying to get a health care reform through. It will help the sick people to have better conditions. Many Americans are against it. The republicans are very much against Obama’s great reform. They say that they are willing to do whatever it takes to stop it.
The opposition -The Republicans
The republicans are a lot more conservative than the democrats. The democrats are more socialistic. The republicans are against abortion, against sex before marriage and so on.
But they have to work together even though they disagree.

Racists
Obama is a victim of racism. Some people say that the biggest problem about the welfare reform is his skin color. He believes that anger against the President is based on the fact that he is a black man. There is an ingrained sense among the people in the United State that a black man should not be president. And if you look back in history a black president would not be possible because of the racism which traces back to the slavery in the southern past 100s years ago.

Conclusion – did he so far make a difference?
He has increased the financial support for people who want to go back to school. He started the process for ending the war in Iraq. The fact that he is the first black president is a big difference
