Dear Winston,
Now that I have been here for a while I would like to tell you what I think of America and the Americans. I hate big cities like Washington D.C., New York and Chicago. I hate violence, which occurs more often in the U.S. than in the U.K. I love the magnificent deserts, the vast forests and the tall mountains. I love the American nature when it is unspoilt by humans.
But as many other Englishmen I think the Americans have bad taste. They were awful clothes and eat disgusting food.
This can may seem indifferent, but I don’t think it is. Clothes and food are two essential aspects of a culture.
Americans also believe that everything can be bought; their society is too commercial. Happiness is a bigger automobile, a heated swimming pool, a computerized kitchen, color TV in all rooms, electric toothbrushes and knives.
However, I like the Americans because they are friendly and tolerant. I admire them because their scientists have helped mankind. I also like them because they seem energetic and happy, and I especially like them of the fact that the modern Women’s Lib did start in America.
I have been critical in my letter. Actually I like America better than you should think.
Love, Julia.

Det er de rettelse der lige sprang i øjnene.
Jeg ville nok omskrive dette stykke en smule, så du ikke bruger "I like..." ige og igen, det lyder ikke pænt.
