Hey.
Indianerne brugte ordet Kanata for boplads.
Engelsk:
”A meri usque ad mare” is the motto of Canada, which stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific and from the North Pole to the 45. degree of latitude. The country is quite huge, but the population is only at about 24 million in this big country, by far, the majority living in the southern part of the country.
The native population, the Eskimos (the Inuit) and the Indians makes up less than a total of two percent of the population as such, but which forms half of the population in the Northwest Terri-tories. In the rest of the population there are 45 percent of English descent and 28 percent of French descent. The rest are immigrants from all over the world.
Though English is the most spoken language Canada has since 1969 had two official languages, French and English, which will say that public offices and institutions shall be able to serve people on the language they wish to speak. This bilingualism probably is a result of the particular rights acquired by the citizens of Quebec, when the English conquered Canada from the French. Quebec has remained a cohesive French speaking region.
Like America Canada was “discovered” way before it was discovered. Already around the year 1000 the Scandinavians was cutting down the trees on the East coast, and in the 15th –century there was French, Spanish and Portuguese fishermen on Newfoundland. It is believed that the name Canada was due to a misunderstanding. The Indians used the word Kanata for settlement. This Columbus understood as the name of the country, and it has since been the official name.
In the 17th –century England and France took an interest in the arrears in North America that the Spaniards had not already taken in possession. The war between the two countries in the 18th –century had the consequence that Canada fell to the English throne. After the independence of American in 1776 many American colonists, who had remained loyal to England, moved north and made the foundation for the English-dominated Canada. Under the threat from the strong Ameri-can north states tree Canadian colonies formed in 1867 a “Confederation”, which the other prov-inces later have joined. As late as in 1949 Newfoundland was annex as the tenth province.
The Canadian flag with the maple leaf in red and white is relatively new of date. In 1965 it re-placed the Canadian Red Ensign and was proclaimed by Queen Elizabeth II, as Canada still consid-ered her as their head of state.
På forhånd tak!
