This study investigates how immigrants in London experiences difficulties about becoming a part of western culture, in relation to one of the Norwegian anthropologist Thomas Hylland Eriksens theories, which occupies with the selection of identity for multicultural individuals. The paper clarifies the identity problematic through the short story Chameleon and the movie Brick Lane, by telling how the major role manages to mix elements from two cultures and lives in big trouble caused by a commuting between the two. Out of this it is concluded that people must create their own identity by adapting themselves to the new culture, and remember the good values from their origin, and therefrom integrate themselves in the best, possible way. And it begins in every person’s own clash and divided mind.
