Mvh

                                                                        Does religion cause war?
The definition of a religious war is quite simple to explain.  A religious war is a war caused by, or justified by, religious differences. It can involve a state with an established religion against another state with a different religion. It can also involve a religiously motivated organization attempting to spread its faith by violence and threats. The Crusades, the French Wars of Religion and the Muslim conquests, are often mentioned historical examples.

A world without religion would definitely have no grounds for religious persecution that is rather true. But would that cause less conflict on the so called planet Earth? It is not anywhere near a realistic thought, that a world without religion would cause less war what so ever.

Good arguments come from relying in the facts overseen by countless critics of religion that deals with the same question ’’does religion cause war?’’. Most critics are augmenting their criticism with bad statistics and irrational facts. There are clear facts that prove: religion does not have any significant place and motivation of prehistoric and current wars. It’s a fallacy to say that wars are caused by religion. Religion does not cause war but motivates it. Without religion there would still be countless motivations to start a war.
1An academic study on the subject of the role of religion in 73 big conflicts over the past three and a half millenniums concluded that over 60 percent of wars had no religious motivation in any way what so ever. 36% were not seen as religious wars but more like countries in conflict that used religion as a motivator for the men in battle. Only 4 percent of all recorded wars where viewed as truly religious wars e.g.’’   The holy crusade’’ that came from Europe to eastern countries. Especially the fight over Jerusalem was noteworthy. There are many great examples of religious and non-religious wars. The minority of religious wars state that religions aren’t a cause of war.

The Crusades were a long series of religious expeditionary wars blessed by the Pope and the Catholic Church. The holy crusades took place in the 11th, 12th and 13th century. They were religious military campaigns. The main goal of the crusades was: restoring Christian access to the holy places in and near Jerusalem.
The Crusades originally started in response to a call from the leaders of the  Byzantine Empire. The crusaders were Catholic military units from Western Europe ruled by the romans. The crusades primarily began in 1095 and 1291.
The Crusades had major far reaching political, economic, and social impacts on Western Europe, including causing the downfall of the Christian Byzantine Empire.
The Holy Crusades was a war caused by religion and it was pure madness, and extreme lack of knowledge about the Muslims way. The Crusaders practically blindfolded themselves and went to war against the harsh and warm unforgiving environment.

The Ethiopian War and the Adal War was a serious military conflict between the great Ethiopian Empire and the Adal Sultanate that is one of the few religious wars. The war lasted 30 years from 1529 until 1559. The Imam called Ahmad ibn Ibrihim that was nicknamed ‘’the left handed’’ was close to extinguishing the ancient Ethiopia, and converting all the Europeans into followers of Islam.

The Islamic religion is well known for its brutality and primitive way of solving various conflicts.
Jihad means ‘’to struggle’’ in the way of God, but it is also sometimes understood as ‘’Holy War’’. It said that the jihads have been called to convert other non-Muslim stated to Islam in the name of God. The first kind of a military based jihad group occurred after the migration of  hijra.
In the medieval times there was constant war between the Christian kingdoms and the Muslims. Several raiding’s occurred and there were taken massive amount of slaves. The conflict between the two religions has always been there.
The 14th of November 1914, in Constantinople that was the capital of the Ottoman Empire, the Islamic leader Sheikhul declares Jihad on behalf of the Ottoman Empire. That urged all Muslims all over the world including the Muslims in the Allied countries to combat the non-Islamic countries. Those countries where: Britain, Russia, France, Serbia and Montenegro in WW 1.

The French Wars of Religion is the name given to a period of civil infighting and military operations that took place over 36 years (1562–98). The war was primarily fought by Catholics and Protestants.
There is no known number of the wars or the date that they occurred, it’s a debate that continues amongst historians. I spite of all the confusion and debates there the Massacre of Vassy in 1562 is agreed to begin the Wars of Religion and the  Edict of Nantes ended the series of conflicts. During this time there were made complex diplomatic negotiations and agreements of peace but they were soon followed by conflict and power struggles again
The Massacre of Vassy became known and it provoked open hostilities between the factions supporting the two religions. The bourbons began to seize and garrison towns along the Loire for a strategic advantage. The big engagements of the war occurred at the geographical locations of Rouen, Dreux and Orléans.
The wars weakened the monarchy’s authority that’s already were immensely fragile under the rule of Francis II and Charles IX.
The result of the war was: victory over the  Politiques. The Edict of Nantes granted the Huguenots substantial rights in certain areas. Paris were declared permanently Catholic, and the failure of Spain to weaken France

The holocaust is a major event in the history of war and it is non-religious.  There are many cases that governments resolve some problems by means of conflict that’s undeniably. Governments have sought to make existing social divisions, including religious divisions, in order to fulfill their own personal agendas e.g. the demonstration of the Jews in Germany during the 1930s achieved by a massive propaganda campaign followed by the increasing power of the Nazi party in Germany led by a notorious man named Adolf Hitler. This was an important and required precursor to the following attempt to eradicate the minority of Jews. The persistence in changing the German peoples view on the Jews from human beings to filthy vermin was essential for Adolf Hitler to gain almost unlimited power.
The holocaust is an example of what we recently are referring to as ‘’ethnic cleansing’’ which is completely and utter unpalatable. The holocaust has no religious parallels of any significant size so it is not a religious war. The constant failures of the country including the First World War where blamed on the Jews and the seeds where planted for a big and raging hate from the German people that just needed change because they were miserable.
It is naive to conclude that without religion there would be less conflict. It is true though, that there would be one less social division that might be manipulated by those in positions of power. It’s actually quite simple. War is a frequent result of one society wanting to control another for whatever purpose. Religion is just a poor excuse for an aggressive act of war.

The year is 2012 and even now there’s a new war on the brink of eruption between Israel and Iran, because Iran is accused of possessing nuclear power and now have the capabilities of making atomic bombs. Israel’s motives to engage in a conflict like this are definitely not religious, but come from fear.
The conclusion is rather simple. If the world didn’t have religion as a motivation for a minority of the wars then the leaders and their countries would easily find another thing to fight over. Even though we are in a modern and experienced time, there are still countries that fight over the most meaningless things instead of cooperating with each other. In the end the greatest threat to humanity is ourselves.
