Translation:
Spring 2004 smoking ban was introduced in all in-door working places in Ireland. That also counted in the pubs but the owners have been creative. Smoking busses and out-door sheds was for an example introduced to keep the smokers out of the rain and cold. The owners and the guest are both to pay a fee on 20.000kr if they do not keep the ban. The opinions about the ban is divided but more bar managers, whose income surprisingly has gone up, is looking forward to people spending more money on alcohol and keeps going till later all the while it’s a smoke-free-night.
Another big health organisation, where more than 40% paradoxically smokes, has used a lot of money on nationwide anti-smoking commercials and therefore got a bad press, when they, after the introduction of the smoking ban, moved their yearly meeting from Dublin to England.
In certain situations you do not by the way just get a fine – you also risk jail. In there you can smoke though.
