Engelsk stil!

Hej :-) Er der nogen der gerne vil rette min engelsk stil?

Opgaven lød sådan: To be Great.

Dr Martin Luther King Jr. once said, ''Everyone has the power for greatness, not for fame, but greatness, because greatness is determined by service. Do you agree that everyone has the potential for greatness? Maybe you think serving others isn't what make someone great; if that's the case, what do you think are the qualifying issues of greatness?

Min stil:

A young man walks down a university hallway towards the entrance where the yearly graduation ceremony is held. He’s walking so straight and mechanical, that you might think he’s in the army. His chest is all swelled because he’s so proud and happy. He casually takes a small piece of paper out of his pocket. The pressure is slowly taking over, and he can feel his hands getting all sweaty. He’s about to give the most important speech of his life. Almost 40.000 eyes are staring at him, while he calmly steps up to the podium. He gabbles about what an honor it is to finally be a Professor of Law. He has never felt this great in his entire life.

Do you think this young man is great? I certainly think he’s great. He has come a long way in life and worked hard to be where he is today. A lot of strength is required to be able to handle all that work and all those expectations. Not only what he expects from himself, but also what his parents, friends or even society expect from him. That itself must be really stressful. So what does greatness even mean? Is it being famous, rich or wealthy? The modern world has become a place where being ‘’on the top’’ is equal to being great. Do you have to be the best to be great? If you ask me, I would say greatness is something you can achieve. It’s about being great in your own unique way. I don’t think there is a precise definition for greatness, but maybe you do.

One man named Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: ‘’to be great is to be misunderstood’’. Emerson meant that great people were the ones that thought outside the box (abstract). Therefore some people couldn’t understand them and often accused them of being abnormal or different. Another example could be, something historians may say: ‘’Winston Churchill was one of the greatest wartime leaders’’. Churchill was the leader of Britain during The Second World War and had a lot of power, but does that necessarily make him great?

Greatness can also be something that comes from the heart. The ability to spread and give love to other human beings is something I think we people take for granted sometimes. You’re great when you help other people. Every religion has some common ethnical principles e.g. charity. I have a few role models myself. I’m very inspired by the things that people like John Lennon, Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. has done for mankind. They have been the leaders of movements that have made people find their inner greatness, and therefore also confidence to stand up and fight for their case. These are the people that I think have achieved greatness.
