There are talent shows all over the world; some might be bigger than others. Many of us have may heard of American Idol, X Factor or Britain’s Got Talent. All these shows have different titles, but in the end, it’s all about the same thing, that is to find the greatest performer or the greatest entertainer. The other part are to make fun of those who can’t sing, dance or perform, to see them try, and fail big time.

In Denmark we have talent shows as well. We have X Factor and Talent. I watched them both myself and I must say it was good entertainment. I manly watched it to get some good laughs, but I must say there were some good participators and auditions. People in Denmark like to watch these kinds of shows.

It’s often the try outs/audition that are the best part. Many different types of people participate in these shows. Some are really bad at singing or performing, and some have talent at singing or performing. The good parts of X factor or Talent are seeing the bad performers. The worse performers, the better shows. That is the logic behind these kinds of shows. I myself think it’s weird to set a show up that way.

But another I don’t understand is, why they are participating in these shows. Someone must have told them that they not are that good, maybe good at home for children singing, but not good enough for a television shows. When they are performing for the judges and for us are they making themselves looking ridiculous. But some of them must believe that they are good enough for the world and after the performing, when the judges says something bad, then they start to cry and they all blame the judges for it.

A couple of years ago I saw X factor and this little teenage girl sang a song for the judges, her singing wasn’t that bad, but she wasn’t X factor materiel. The judges said she wasn’t any good for nobody when it came to singing. She was devastated. Crying her eyes out. Later that week, she was all over the Internet. People commenting bad stuff about her. She was a mess. A week or two after that, she tried to committed suicide, but she fail, thank God. It’s just one example of many. 

And then there are the exceptionally good performers. To perform in front of an big audience or just an little audience. I would also like to experience this kind of fame and this kind of talent, but I’m not a good singer, and I wouldn’t stand in front of a million people.

It is hard to see if talent shows are dreams or nightmares. I would say it is both. For some peoples their dreams are coming true, and for the rest it is nightmares. Their dreams are being smashed into thousand piece and becoming a nightmare.
