Her kommer mit skrevne tekst (første del er blevet rettet):
This comedy movie is about the life of an apparent ordinary American family and how it develops itself. But it does so in a very strange and uncanny way. The movie revolves around broken youth dreams, the demands of love, perfection at it's worst, psychical survival and seeing all the beauty in life before it’s to late.
The movie contains of tree different kind of filming:
Ricky’s filming, that’s (urolige) and blurred.
Lester’s dreams about Angela.
The pictures of the empty “perfect” life.
All scenes are very simple; Few persons, few colors, few details. All unnecessary things are been cut out, to make it simple. This is actually smart of the director, because the story he want to tell, is in a way pretty confusing and complicated, so by cutting all superfluous things out, it all became simpler to the observer. An example could be the scenes in the suburb. There are no unusual houses or plants, there are no cars driving around or people walking, and gardens do nearly look identical.
One more thing –making it all simple is the red color. Red is a very strong and symbolizes color often used to symbolize love or death.
Red things in the film: The roses, Lester’s new car, there front door, Lester’s bloody head and so on. And I think that the symbols in this movie are: The need of love; Caroline takes so much care for her roses and it can (skyldes) her missing love. I Lester’s dreams of Angela roseleaves always (indtræder), cause they’re beautiful, and cause he really miss Caroline’s love. The Red front door can be a sign, telling us something dramatic soon will happen.

Har skrevet mere til :
“American Beauty” is the name of a rose. And the central beauty in this movie is also the rose. Caroline’s roses are beautyfull, Angela is beauty (with roseleaves around her). But later in the film, we are told that this isn’t really the beauty of life. The beauty of life can be many things, normal things like the plasticback. And if you haven’t discovered that yet, you may have wasted your life – Like Lester.
