Unhealthy children
We can all agree that obesity is becoming a very big problem world wide. Obesity begins from the beginning of their lives, if their parents do not teach them how to get exercise or how to eat right. In the 60’s, where there was not any playstations, and television was something they saw ones a week, with the whole family. Now the children watches television, or play playstation when they come home from school. There is not many children who exercises in their spare time, and if the do, it is only ones a week in a half our. The reasons why it is like this, is because of all the advertising, says Professor Phil James, International Association for the Study of Obesity. He wants to stop all the advertisements for unhealthy food. An advertising company called Ofcom, makes these commercial for fast food, like Mc. Donald’s, Burger King, and also for all the snacks like Estrella chips. Professor Phil James wants to do something about the commercials. He would like to put the commercials under the 9pm rule, so the commercials only are in the television after 9pm. If they ban all commercials, then there is a smaller chance that the children see them, and gets “inspired” to eat unhealthy. I personally do not think that this has any effect on the children. We all know that almost every child in Denmark has a television in their room, and they watch it every day, also in the night, so I do not think it would work.
The 9pm banishment is something that they are discussion right now in England. It is not only England there is trying to make this 9pm rule. Right now they are also discussing it here in Denmark. Countries in Europe like Norway, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain, have already banned advertisement and commercials. France do not have the 9pm rule, but instead, they have a law, which says that all advertising in the television, have to carry a health warning label. I do not think that any of these law or rule would help. I think first of all, that it is the policy, there is something wrong with. If they really want to do something about children’s health, they should talk to the parents, about what food they are giving their kids. Second of all, the schools should have much healthier food, to much lower prices. When fast food is so cheap, the children would rather buy the fast food than buy the much healthier food. Third of all, the children should have more gymnastic on their schedule, so they can come in shape, and not sit down all day in the school.
Obesity is a big problem, and something we really have to do something about. Obesity can have great carings (følger?). For an example, we all know that there is many children, who gets teast (drillet) because they are fat or overweight. When they grow up, they will have low self-esteem, and will have lower chances to get friends and also have lower chances to find love. If the find love, and want some children themselves, they also have lowers chances for that. If the get children, there is a chance that their own children also will get fat. So as you see. It is an evil circle, which is hard to break.
