Det var en sen efter middag i april måned. Solens stråler kunne knap nok nå ned i byens smalle gader. Efter mange dages hårdt arbejde med bøgerne cyklede Geoff gennem Oxfords gader ned til floden Isis , hvor han skule træne med sine venner . Den unge mands ansigt så bekymret ud;han var holdets yngste medlem , og han var ikke sikker på, om han vkunne levo op til trænerens og de andres forventninger .Sidste år havde slået Cambridge med en bådslængde. De vidste at ,deres båds tilstand var perfekt . De skulle vinde. Nu måtte han bare gøre sit bedste .
Efter et par timers træning tog de hjem på Geoffs værelse på New College. På vejen gik de ind til en købmand og købte otte flasker cola, seksten kartoner mælk og en masse chokolade.
Aftenen sluttede med,at de ønskede hinanden held og lykke me weekendens spændende match –som også skulle blive århundredets match


It was a late afternoon in the month of April. The sun’s beam could barely reach down on the small streets of the town. After many days of hard work with books bicycled Geoff through the streets of Oxford down to the river Isis , were he was supposed to train with his friends.
The young man’s face looked worried ;he was the youngest member of the team , and he wasn’t sure if he could live up to the coach’s and the other’s expectations. Last year they had bitten the city of Cambridge with the length of a boat .They knew that the condition of their boat was perfect .
They had to win . Now he just had to do his best .
After a couple of hours of training they went at Geoff’s room at New College. On the way they went at the grocer’s and they bought eight bottles of cola , sixteen cartons of milk and a lot of chocolates.
The evening ended up with them wishing each other good luck with the match of the
weekend – which was going to be the match of the century .
