Abstract:
This paper analyses and characterizes Jane Eyre; the main character in Charlotte Bronte’s novel "Jane Eyre". The paper also examines her development through the novel and the different facets of her personality. The paper considers both her mental half which is the side she shows outwardly, and her sexual half which is the half she hides from her surroundings. The paper examines the themes religion, morale and good manners which is social demands and what influence they have on the main character. It also contains an evaluation of Jane Eyres rebellion against the social demands. The study also includes a comparison with how the Danish literature accounts women and the social demands which is shown in “Adam Homo”.
Through periodic knowledge, analysis and interpretation of the novels “Jane Eyre” and “Adam Homo” it is shown that women feel suppressed by the tough social demands and that it makes them fight for equal rights and for the social acceptance of women as sexual beings.
