The world in general
CO2 is something most have heard of – a greenhouse gas that is discharged by especially the rich western countries and helps to change the climate. We love our cars, our hot houses and the flights to distant countries. That is what makes our weekdays pleasantly. But we pay a price for the great energy consumption.
We release a lot of CO2 when we burn down coal, oil and gas. They are the fuels that we make energy of. The crowd of CO2 rises in the atmosphere quickly and this is a problem. It puts itself like an invisible layer around the Earth in the atmosphere like the glass in a greenhouse. Heat from the sun can occur into the atmosphere but it cannot come out again.
We can turn down the CO2 deduction in many ways by using the energy more effectively. There have to be found new CO2 neutral fuels and made a cut down on our consumption of coal, oil and gas which gets us current heat and fuel to the cars.
If all of us make an effort is it a great difference - also for the developing countries.
Sierra Portable Light Project
People in the Sierra mountain range in Mexico live without electricity because it is too expensive to build power lines – a lack that has direct consequences on their finances since they can only work in the day hours. Their only support is themselves and the art. The results have to be sold hundreds of kilometres away at the towns which is a long journey on foot.
In order to help the poor people a group of scientists, designers and architects has prepared a project named "Sierra Portable Light". It uses the newest technology to create lights after the sun's decrease without other necessities.
The scientists use a technique where small electronic crystals in materials are built into clothes, bags and other properties. By connecting the suns light to the things they absorb the energy in the day hours and create a white light in the night.
This technique has been known in the western world for many years and is able to help to distribute the world's nature-resources more equally.
