Heej :)

Jeg har nedenunder lavet en eksamensopgave omkring Charity i forhold til tiggeri. Tænkte på om der var nogen der ville hjælpe mig med at få rettet lidt i det?

Summary of “The advert that beggars belief”
The text is written by Alexander Chancellor and published in The Guardian. The Indian streets are full of beggars. They are everywhere in India, they are unscrupulous and do terrible things to their children to increase their earnings. Because of the Indian generosity, they mean that charity to beggars is a duty they cannot avoid, therefore a beggar can earn more in a month than a bank clerk does.
In Europe and Britain people are more selfish and meaner, even though have more money than the Indians. The British people finding excuse not giving money to beggars because they use them to drugs.
A part of London called Westminster Council launched a campaign with the slogan “Killing with Kindness”. The campaign is focusing on charity is guilty in drug abuse and last but least death. Instead giving beggars’ money sends a cheque to the Salvation Army. (146)

An outline of the various attitudes to charity as expressed in the texts
There are many ways to donate money to the poorest people in the world. From when you give a coin to a beggar you see at the streets to money you give to big charitable organizations. And so technically we are today we can give money just if you’re send a sms. I think the text “The advert that beggars belief” had a little negative attitude to beggars. It says that it’s their death if we give them any money; they are going out and using them at drugs or so. Like a contrast for that we have the Live Aid, Comic Relief and Children In Need we hear about in the text “Charity never dies, it only sleeps”. Big organizations we know all over the world. But I think it would be different if we had thinks like that in Denmark. And it’s also what the texts says, we have different opinions and attitudes to beggars all over the world, and the beggars know how to “treat” us all over the world. But why is it we anyways are giving money to various organizations. A thing like we can see the things we are spending money for in the TV is a very important thing. But we can never be sure the money is going for what we expected when we were donating them.

Comment on; “… to improve our own and our families’ lives, it is best also to improve the lives of those around us”
In the text “Charity never dies, it only sleeps” following statement is found about the British way of thinking: to improve our own and our families’ lives, it is best also to improve the lives of those around us. It’s a conservative way to think, everyone have to be equal. Whereas the liberals mean that the human must be selfish to manage something.
Ideologically it should be like in the quote, but in reality the human is self-centred, selfish and only thinks on themselves and family. If the quote will happen the world will be without different inequality and beggars.

EVT. nogle flere kommentarer:) ?

Letter to editor
Dear Alexander Chancellor April 10, 06
I have read your article “The advert that beggars belief” in The Guardian last week. I found your attitude to charity very interesting! I am in that conviction that giving money to beggars does more damage than good. I cannot find one reason giving beggars money, but a lot of reasons why not to. Research had proofed that beggars do not know how to handle money and they spend their money on drugs. If the generous population of Britain instead gave their money to chartable organizations we could really help these poor people.
Best regards Line
