Jeg er lige blevet færdig med mit oplæg til det selvvalgte emne til eksamen.
Er der nogle der vil kigge det igennem for evt. fejl
Why i have chosen this topic?
I have chosen this subject because, i find nonviolence very useful. At first, nonviolence for me, sounded a little bit strange. Not because i use violence, but because we live in a world, where violence is a daily thing.
But afterwords it came to me, if Gandhi or King use this Nonviolent tactic, they couldn't be arrested, because they hadn't done anything wrong, and if the police starts use violence, it is not Gandhi or King who look bad in the press, but the police. And that sounded for me, very useful. But after reading a lot on this subject, i realized, that it wasn't that peaceful, and it was that Mandela, Gandhi and King fought for.
What had Mandela, Gandhi and King in common?
Gandhi, Mandela and King were all big fighters against racisme, and they had that in common that they used nonviolence to fight against it.
All 3 used this tactic, and they were proud of it. Though, Gandhi and King had a little bit more in common than Mandela had to the other two. Because, Gandhi was Kings master before King was to that he was. Too, Mandela used nonviolence as a strategy or as a tactic, while Gandhi and King really believed in it, with big faith, and as a part of their religion.
Although, these 3 men had a lot in common. They came from loving homes, they were well educated and they spent a lot of time to stop racial discrimination.
What made them choose the nonviolent way?
In Gandhi and Kings case, nonviolence was a part of their religion, while Mandela used it as a strategy.
Kings faith for nonviolence were ment to be, his whole family had fought for racial justice, and King was just another one, until he got president for the NAACP.
Though, King first heard about nonviolence on a university.
In Gandhis case, it was his mother to learn him about nonviolence. Gandhi described his mother as a ideal housemother, who took good care of her children. Gandhi's mother never made any different between her children and other children, and her children(Gandhi) were often forced to share more than they could afford.
Mandelas case was a bit different, he first heard about nonviolence when he got to prison.
Though, he didn't got to prison for any violent thing, he got to prison for fighting against apartheid in South Africa, in a unreasonable case where he was accused for something he never did.
What were Mandela, Gandhi and King's backgrounds?
All 3 leaders came from careful homes, with loving mothers and royale fathers.
Mandela grew op in the kingdom of Tembu, in South Africa. He was born the 18 juli 1918, with the name Rolihlahla Mandela. He was the first in his family to go to school, and he did it in the age of 7.
In the school, a teacher gave him the name Nelson and from there his name was Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
Mandela was a very clever man, and he passed, what we in Denmark know as a gymnasium, in 2 years against the normal 3 years.
Mandela is educated lawyer, and he got president for South Africa in 1994. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993
Mahatma Gandhi was born the 2 October 1869, and was killed the 30 January 1948.
Gandhi was a hinduist, and he lived his life by the rules of hinduisme, with prays, meditation and of course nonviolence. He was also a vegetarian
In India, Gandhi fought against the English Colony, so they could get the Englishmen out of their country. Gandhi also fought for Indians rights in South Africa.
And he fought of course with nonviolence as a weapon.
Martin Luther King, jr, was born the 15 January 1929 and he died from a shot attack the 4 of April 1968.
King was educated as a doctor where he had i Ph-d, he was also educated as a minister, where he worked as a Baptist Preast.
King got well known under the busboycot in Montgomery, who he leaded. After that, he fought for racial justice in the South States.
He is also well known for his speech; I have a dream.
In 1964 he won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Do people today not believe as much in nonviolence as they did in the 60's and 70's?
In todays world, there is so much violence that we can't think of anything else. And when Bush says ”War against terror”, is it simply insane.
When we turn on the news, we see a lot of violence. We never see demonstrants who use nonviolence as a weapon. I think it is because we dont have a King in todays world, so nobody have someone like him as a front figure.
In the 60's and 70's, when King just died, they had him as a front figure.
Martin Luther King, jr, had just died in his struggle against racisme, so he was an extraordinary man, and many people looked op to him.
I think these to reasons is why, nobody believe in nonviolence today.
