Rettelse af verbalkongruens

Jeg er lige ved at rette nogle, efter min mening, lidt tricky kongruensopgaver. Er der ikke nogle der vil være søde, og se om de er rigtige?

-One fifth of the population were children.
-Six times six is thirty-six
-Three plus ten is thirteen.
-Lots of snow has fallen this winter.
-Not only the bus, but all the cars, were stopped.
-A number of letters have been destroyed.
-The glass, as well as the bottles, were smashed.

The English middleclass has gained a bad reputation. That is if you are to believe the report that was published the other day. An organization named International Youth Welfare have along with London University made this report, based on material collected from questionnaires send out to approximately 1500 au pair girls in different parts of England. Three quarters of the questionnaires were returned, and they showed some unpleasant facts on how the young girls, who come to England to learn the language, are treated.

There is often a great difference between the pieces of information that the young girls receive before they leave, and the way they are treated by their host families in England. A great part of the girls say, that they only make £9 a week, that they work approximately 50 hours a week, and that a great part of them do not eat with their hosts and don’t get enough food.

The chairman of International Youth Welfare, the monk Dom Placid, came to England himself twenty years ago, and he still lives there today. He, as well as other organizations, think that it is important for the situation of the au pair girls to be known, so that the bad conditions can be improved. The organization has therefore suggested, that booklets should be made for every au pair girl, who come to England, and to their host families. This could perhaps improve the reputation of the English middleclass family, among the other European countires.
