The clothes fall exactly like it would in a photograph. And except from the peoples posture the picture is almost like if it was in fact a photograph. By this painting the artist is really boasting his talent. He must have earned a great deal of money on this painting, otherwise it would not be as large of a scale and the amount of details would undoubtedly not have been this large.
The first thing I notice, when I look at the picture is the woman and boy saying goodbye. This is not a coincidence, the two objects is placed in the golden section also known as divine proportion. By placing these to persons in the gold section the artist is trying to emphasize the action there is taking place between these to characters. Most likely the women is just about to send her son, with the train, to Boarding School. At this time people preferred Boading School as the best kind of education.
