1.
The text “Everyone must be an organ donor unless they opt out, says Chief Medical Officer” Sir Liam Donaldson recommends moving to a system of presumed consent, in an attempt to increase the number of organs for donation. A lot of countries are in lack of organs, and every day somebody in Britain dies whose life a transplant could have saved.
Many organisations for example the British Medical Association think that a switch from “opt-in” to “opt-out” is a very good idea.
Even though a lot of people think that organ donation is a good idea, not enough people register the donor list.
Sir Liam Donaldson says that the best way of getting a lot of people to be donors is to move to opt-out, where everyone is on the donor register unless they choose to remove their names.
The waiting list for patients who needs an organ is rising every year and the proportion who get a transplant is falling.
Britain has one of the lowest organ donation rates in developed countries. Spain was in a similar situation but managed to more than double its rates of donation since bringing in an opt-out system.
Sir Liam Donaldson points out that there of course would be safeguards to ensure that religious and faith groups that did not wish to donate organs could opt out easily.
Dr. Moritsugu who talks in the text “The Solvable Problem of Organ Shortages” also think the shortage of organs is a very big problem. Although willingness to donate has risen in recent years, major hurdles remain. Some people, for example, believe incorrectly that patients who might otherwise be saved are sometimes “killed” for their organs.
Dr. Moritsugu support the view of Sir Liam Donaldson. He says that most Americans says that they approve of donation, but only one person in four has indicated that by signing forms. In Europe, a lot of countries consider you a potential donor unless you expressly declare that you do not want to be one.
In text 3, the issue is if the government should legalise trading of organs. As the other texts, point out there is a problem with getting enough organs, therefore some suggest that it should be legal to trade an organ for money. This way qualified doctors would do the operations and that would mean that both the patients and donors would be in safe hands.
In Iran it is legal the result of that is that the waiting list has been eliminated.
Many people will find the very idea of individuals selling their organs repugnant, but there are already a black marked for organs. If it got legalised it would be best for sellers and receivers, because of the safety. The donors would be checked for diseases like HIV, and they would get much more of the money because the middleman would be cut out.
In the last text (4), they also try to do something about the lack of organs. It is kind of a controversial way to put focus on the subject. BNN a Dutch TV-network broadcasted a show were kidney patients would have to convince a dying woman why they should be the lucky one to receive one of her kidneys. A lot of people were chocked of this TV-show, but it also made people talk about the problem, which was the reason why TV-network did it they say.
2.
In text 1 the solution to the problem is political correct, and could increase the numbers of organs. However, it would properly not have the same good effect as the solution in text 3.
In text 3, they want to legalise trade of organs but in a controlled way. That would mean that the already existing black marked would go out of business so to speak. It would also mean that those who need or want to sell organs could do so in a controlled and professional setting. It could also create some problems if it get legal to sell organs. People who really need money could find that this is an easy way to get them. However, I think that if it get legalised people would have to go throw a lot of formalities such as talking to psychologists and doctors and they would decide if the donor is ready for it both psychically and physically and even more important that they are doing it for the right reasons.
3.
The TV hoax that text 4, describes I think is a good way to get people to talk about it and get some focus on the subject. A lot of people means to sign up for organ donation when die, but they never do. The TV show showed how desperate people who are waiting for organs are, and that could make people think about organ donation even more. I think that all sort of attention is good. It is often when people get offended they pay most attention.
If the show had not been a hoax I would have seen different upon it, then it would have been kind of sick putting suffering people throw such things just because of ratings.

Man kan udmærket bruge vendingen "so to speak" på engelsk. Men det er lidt sent at gøre trådstarter opmærksom på det.
