Who’s Irish
The text is about a sixty-eight years woman, who is also the narrator of the story.
At the beginning of the story she is very focused on Sophie, her granddaughter. And she says that the joint child is supposed to be smart, and it is Sophie also because she is half Irish and Chinese.
She and her husband came to America many years ago when Natalie, Sophie's mother was a child. And in the beginning opened a Chinese restaurant, which is owned by them and are not deposits or something in that direction.
She says that everyone was afraid of her when she was young, even her husband.
And when the gang members come to some protection money, they always tried to speak with her husband and if she was there, they treated the situation in another way, just hide behind the menu and order a lot of food, it was a New Way to surrender themselves.
Natalie's husband's family, Shea is Irish. She says that they are slightly different, and she thought that the Irish people are like Chinese people, and worked so hard on the railroad.
Natalie starts mandated Sophie who is 3 years old in another way, as the grandmother had not expected. Grandmother began to make a difference, she believes that children should be kicked to learn the correct rules, but the parents of Sophie, who is Natalie and John are not so agree with her. They had always said to her that she should talk with Sophie, instead of kicking, the spanking will just get Sophie to hate her. And however it will also give kids low self-esteem.
Sophie makes some episodes that make her grandmother angry, and make her spank Sophie, until Natalie and John can’t take it any more.
She understands that there are significant differences in the U.S. than China.
She chose to move out, move to Bess. Johns mother, and live with her.
Ethnic differences:
There are many differences in all cultures. In my country people spank also the children to trade them, and they also know that it’s not allowed in Islam.
It is not where people are coming forward, but the people we are talking about.
Because there are probably many parents in the U.S. who treat their children worse than that.
Children-Spanking:
I am sure that children violence is not the right solution and that Natalie is right, it gives children a low self-esteem. Parents must talk out problems with their children; the children understand it much better than being turned.
