Hej..
Jeg har lige skrevet engelsk stil, og ville blive rigtig glad hvis der var nogen der ville læse den igennem og så fortælle hvis der er gramatiske fejl eller hvis der er noget der er uforståeligt!
:)
1. Summary of ”Trouble in store” (text 2)
National Family and Parenting Institute have found out that parents think that there is too much advertising aimed at their children. Maybe the advertising has something to do with the growing number of mental health of children and teenagers. It is curious that there not have been more efforts to finds out whether consumer culture is bad for the children or not.
National Consumers Council says that there are three important pointers.
The first is that children loves to shop but most of them also feels like they are been ripped-off as consumers and they feels humiliated.
The second is that consumer culture disrupts the parent-child relationship because the marketers use the children to get their parents money. A boy says that if he keeps tormenting his mother to get something he gets it eventually.
The third, and most worrying, is that there might be a connection between poor household income and mental disorders, and the effects of the consumerism are most evident in poorer households.
2. Give an outline of the various attitudes to consumerism in the texts
Text 1 gives a negative image of consumerism without having a focus at any particular group such as children or women, like the other texts have. In the text consumerism is described like this “It is not buying but shopping that captures the spirit of consumerism”. Is says in the text that once we made our goods by ourselves but now we buy them without knowing where they are coming from. The main point in the text is that consumerism has changed for the worse.
Text 2 gives also a negative image of consumerism but it is focuses at the children. The parent’s thinks there are too many advertisements aimed at children. A study shows that the children loves shopping and the average 10-year-old can remember 300-400 different brand names. They talks about that the advertisement aimed at children maybe are a link to the growing mental health of children and teenagers but it has not been studied yet.
Text 3 focuses on adult women’s addiction called “shopaholism” and compares it with other addictions like drinking and gambling. The text says that shopping is a mental disorder that you need to take medicine for, but the writer defends the women and says that just because they are starting to earn their own money they cannot be diagnosed as mental sick people.
3. Comment on the attitude expressed in the following quotation: “The clothes we wouldn´t be seen dead in will grace a slum in Nairobi, or be recycled (like our cars) for a new life”
I think most people today throw their clothes out because it is been too small or just because they want their wardrobe to be renewed. It is not because the clothes are ratty and full of holes that they do not want it more. In a way it is also good that we, in the richer countries, discard our clothes because then the people in the poor countries can get benefit from it. Even if the clothes should have some damage like holes or the colors have changed, then I am sure that poor people will be very happy with it anyway. They have many other problems to think about than how their clothes look.
4. Write an article for a school magazine in which you discuss how branded articles influence our lives
Brands influence our lives every day. It has influence on our economy, our confidence and how other look at us. Every day we take position on many occasions whether we should choose the original brand or a cheaper copy. For example when we go to the grocery and chose Kellogg’s Corn Flakes instead off a copy which is a lot cheaper. I do not think that people always choose the original article because they think it is better than the cheap copy, but it could be because they are scared of what other people would think if they saw they were buying copies. It is also a way to show that you have money and that is what I think teenagers do when they are out shopping and buy something very expensive clothes like all the others in the school. It is frightening that the children are younger and younger because a 10-year-old girl should absolutely not think about if her trousers is the “right” brand. I think it is ridiculous that parents do not put a stop to it.

Every day, we have to choose whether we want to buy the original brand or a fake/chaep copy? When we for example go to the grocery and chose Kellogg’s Corn Flakes instead of a copy which is a lot cheaper. I do not think that people always choose the original article because they think it is better than the cheap copy, but it could be because they are scared of people's opinion if they saw them buying copies. It is also a way to show your status; that you have money and that is what I think teenagers do when they are out shopping and buy something very expensive; same clothes like all the others in the school. It is frightening that the children start this at an early age; they tend to become younger and younger. I think it is ridiculous to see that the media keep doing such and that parents do not put an end to this.

You're getting this all wrong. People DO throw their clothes away becuse they are old and full of holes. Have you met anyone who wants to wear a t shirt which is covered with holes? No.
