London er i dag en af de byer I verden, der modtager flest indvandrere – endda foran kosmopolitiske metropoler som New York og Los Angeles.
I artiklen ”London’s Comings and Goings” beskrives nogle af fordelene og ulemperne ved disse års massive indvandring. Indvandring i London, som udgør to tredjedele af Storbritanniens indvandring, er for eksempel årsagen til at byens økonomi vokser hurtigere end andre steder i landet. Til ulemperne hører stigende boligpriser, et stort pres på skolesystemet og ikke mindst social ulighed imellem byens hvide og sorte befolkning. Nogle af de indfødte hvide byboere ser også byens voksende sorte befolkning som en belastning og flygter ud på landet. Udflytningen til landet er i det hele taget støt stigende blandt Londons velhavende hvide befolkning, hvor man ikke blot slipper for stress og larm, overbefolkning og kriminalitet, men også kan efterabe det gamle aristokratiske ideal: et isoleret liv i romantisk ophøjethed midt i det grønne engelske landskab.

In the article “London’s Comings and Goings” is some of the advantages and disadvantages of these years massive immigration described. Immigration in London which represents two thirds of Britain’s immigration is for example the cause of the city’s economy is growing faster than somewhere else in the country. To the disadvantages belongs rising house prices, a big pressure on the schools and not at least social inequality between/among? the city’s white and black population.
Some of the native white urban population does also see the growing black population in the city as a charging and flees to the countryside. The emigration to the countryside er i det hele taget støt stigende? among London’s wealthy white inhabitants where you not only get off/be rid of? stress and noise, overcrowding and crime, but also can imitate the old aristocratic ideal: an isolated life in romantic sublimity in the middle of the green English landscape.
