The Second World War was the most chaotic and eventful period in the history of the 20th century. It affected the lives of millions of people all over the world and a lot were expected of the population during World War Two.
Winston Churchill promised in a speech nothing more than 'blood, toil, tears and sweat'. When the distress was biggest under World War 2, Churchill was the one to inspire the British People to continue and win the battle against Adolf Hitler.
He mobilised and motivated courage in a whole nation.
“I will say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air”
He honest tolded the people that this war could take a long time with fight and pain and people had to have strength to go forward together and wage war so that Britain got the victory. It was the only way to make all that the British Empire stood for survive. He only had one goal: to win at all costs, and even though how long time it would take or how hard it would be. He expected help from everyone. He believed that mankind would be strong if people stood together with a common goal to win the war.
Queen Elisabeth said in an ungiven speech to all the women under the Second World War that women have so many things to do. They have to be separated from their children, but only for a little while. Many children were at that time sent to farms to work. Some children were sent to big country houses. Some women had to take other peoples children in their houses and everyone knows how hard it can be to have a new person in their home. Women also had huge concerns about the blackout curtains, which were very important during World War 2, food and rationing were women’s job. Many women provided food and shelter for those that had been 'bombed' out of their homes.
Many women also left home and family to join the military. There were three services which were open for women to join - the army, air force and navy. Women were also appointed as air raid wardens. Queen Elisabeth was very proud because she visited these Forces and saw how much women helped during the war – even though it was a little way or big way, because there was no difference between the two – everyone did would they could do to help their loving country.
One way which Queen Elisabeth points out how the women can help all together is not to gossip – it will not help anyone to hear something terrible and the Queen personally says that the women have to think that the Queen herself asked for no gossip. One more thing the Queen points out is that even though women don’t believe it she IS thinking and praying about innocent people, which civilian life are far away from the normal life as they are used to. Queen Elisabeth expects the women to do what women are best to: being brave.
