The book '(The) Stepford Wives' was written by Ira Levin and was first published in Great Britain in 1972.

The main people (én person = person, to personer = people, folkeslag = peoples) in the book are (altid nutid når du fortæller om en person) Joanna, Walter, and their family including friends.
Joanna is a hardworking person, who (det er en person du fortæller om) likes playing tennis, is a semi photographer and is interested in politics, like ‘The Women’s Liberation Movement’.

She was very successful at her job, which was at network station, where she hosted the TV-show ‘The Battle of the Sexes’. But an incident ruined her (stadig en kvinde) career. On one episode of ‘The Battle of the Sexes’, she tested the loyalty of the couple. The title of the show is “I can do better” which insinuates (insinuerer) that women can do better than men, or if men can do it, women also can. The couple name was Hank and Barbara and they had been separated for a few weeks (with somebody else.) Forstår ikke betydningen?

It turned out that Hank was loyal to his wife Barbara said that she enjoyed herself more with other men, than her own husband. Because of this (bestemt) incident, Hank went down to the station, interrupted the live show and attempted to shoot Joanna. Luckily, she was not hurt but the station didn’t like it. Therefore, they decided to pull Joanna from the station, which affect her very much. (Er det ikke en selvfølge, at hun bliver påvirket, hvis hun mister sit job?)

Joanna’s husband is called Walter, and their two kids are called peter and Kimberly.
Walter loves her so much, that he decided to resign at the network station as well. Walter saw how his (det er en mand der omtales) wife was affected after resigning and therefore decided to move to Stepford County, where they were welcomed by Mrs. Wellington.

Stepford County was a little town county. Men and women had (fortsæt datid) different duties, which were done separately. They enjoyed living in the county and thought it to be boring to stay in the big town/city (?).

Mike Wellington became their best neighborly friend, and introduced them to the people in the county-town, where they made friends and got to know more about the area, seeing as both of them were interested in politics and sport.

Joanna may change women’s rights because of the political right and experience, she had that women are always in control / being controlled (?).
(Den sidste del her er svær at forstå betydningen af)
