American beauty is a film about lost youth dreams, fundamental human needs for love on how important it is to see the beauty in life before it is too late

Lester is married to Carolyn. They have a teenage daughter, Jane.
Lester lives in a perfect neighborhood, with perfect gardens with red roses. Everything looks perfect at the outside, men the inside is something else.
Lester is slipping deeper and deeper into a hopeless depression. He is suffering a mid-life crisis that effect the lives of his family.
Lester don’t talk so much with the family and his daughter hates him, because she thinks that he is a horny geek boy. She wants a rollemodel.
Lester behaves not as a father who has a responsibility. he is depressed and feel dead inside.
I think that his wife have to much control in the family. Ex. When they eat, they have to listen to klassisk music, which seems like, only she like it. Lester and Jane don’t say anything and just eat.

lester and his wife, went to watch Jane cheerleading. They meet Angela hayes a friend of Jane.
He gets attracted to her and starts working out (Angela like muscules) to gain the attention to Angela. He also starts to joins two Jims on their daily run, clearly determined to get in shape.
Lester have fantasies of a naked Angela. He don’t have any seksual contact with his wife, so I think that is one of the reasons, why he is so attracted to Angela.

Ricky: he is 17 years old, he has dark hair and mistrous eyes. He is tall and quit. I supposed that, he’s biggest intersset is to film people and film beauty.
He lives with his mother and father, the next-door to Jane. His father is homophobic and his mother is speechless.
Ricky is a drug dealer. He does what he’s father tells him to do, but he does what he wants when he is alone. His father don’t want him to sell druges, but Ricky stell do that. Ex: he meat Lester (Jane’s father) at the party and they got out to get high.
After that lester begun to call Ricky to deliver some pot to him.
Ricky is a shy boy and he doesn’t have any friends. He starts to film Jane and talk to her. Jane seems to fall in love with Ricky. He and Jane have a lot in common, because they both from a broken home. They eventually turn out to be soulmates. He starts open his heart for Jane, by telling her about his feelings and life. He lets her in, in his heart and so does she.

Ricky said that he films all the beautiful things. So he films the Burnhams to. He films Jane, beaucse he thinks that she is beautiful.

Ricky seems very friendly and shy. He’s friendly to Lester and Jane. He is also friendly to his mum.

Themes: american life and dream, big houses and gardens. Teenage life: Ricky and Jane are teenagers and confused about their lives. They tries to find a meaning behind all the owful things which happens, and they does it by looking for the beauty, which Ricky talks with Jane about.
Family life: how a normal family should be and behaves.
And least but not last, the beauty...

B) Why does Ricky think that Jane is more beautiful than Angela:
Angela is not herself, she is trying to be somethings she is not. By acting like an adult with a sexlife. She only brags about how many times she done it with guys. But in real life, she is virgin.
Angela thinks that beauty come from the outside and she focus alot on the outside. She don’t look inside people to know them.

I think that Ricky likes Jane, because she is quit and just herself. He can fell her and know that she is real.
He likes Jane more than Angela, because Jane is beautiful from the inside.

What is your view on beauty:
Beauty for me is: when I give love and fell beloved. When I feel happiens deep in my heart.
When I see old people hold eachtohers hands.
I know that I can count on my family and they are here for me. That’s the important thing in my life and that is beauty for me...
Beauty doesn’t come from the outside, but from the inside.
