Isn't it strange how we always regret, what we have done, when it's to late? And isn't it strange how alcohol often is involved?

In the short story “Company” the main character also regrets what he has done when it is to late. He tries to drink his problems away. When he is really drunk he yells and screams and says that it is not his own fault. But when he was almost passed out he said, “Anyway never meant to”
Here he regrets what he has done. That he has lost his kids, either to his wife in a divorce case, or also has the social workers removed them from him. I think that the social workers have removed them because he says, “Didny need to take them away” and “Wouldny have hurt them. Wouldny. Fuckin cow thought I Would”. I think the reason, why the social workers have removed his children, is because his ex-wife has told the social workers that he maybe would hurt the children. That is probably why he has started to drink alcohol. And alcohol can ruin many people’s lives. I know that from my own uncle, he was an alcoholic and he lost his children and his wife. But luckily he is not an alcoholic now.
I think that the main character will really regret that he has started to drink and that he will try to make it up again, when he sobers up again or the social workers will help in some kind of way. But the question is, can he do that? Or will the social workers do it, when they think that he has hurt his own children?
I think the reason why Moira Burgess has written this short story, in the perspective of a cat, is
because it is unusual and funny. It is unusual because I have not seen that before. It is funny because you never really think about what a cat is thinking.
The themes in this short story are alcohol abuse and trusting others.

The main character’s life has been ruined by alcohol, and he will probably die, an alcoholic, in the same old,dirty and rotten flat. And he would regret his alcohol abuse, when it is to late.
