Rettelse haster meget

En rettelse af dette vil hjælpe meget, skal bruges til i aften så håber nogen har tid. Den er blevet rettet igennem men ønsker gerne flere rettelser. :s :S haster.

The short story “Driving” by Suzanne Karama is about a young woman named Yvonne Hamada from USA who is married with a Japanese, Ryu. Yvonne is a typical American young woman who wants to work and drive when she want, but the problem is that in Japanese culture it’s not normal that a woman drive. Which means that she has to change culture from American culture to Japanese culture.
Yvonne has moved to Japan to live with her husband Ryu, and to teach English. It is difficult to her to come to terms, because there is many thing which is different compared with America. She has to learn the Japanese culture and conform to the culture. Ryu reminds of Yvonne at the behaviour, because he follows his tradition in Japan but at the same time he is open for new ideas and wants to be a part of an other culture for eksapmle the American culture. ”Ryu’s love of American freedom, frankness and Major leouge baseball.“ Here we see that he is interesting in Yvonne’s culture and even if they are in Japan they should not forget Yvonne’s native land. Even if he is thoughtful, he is a kind of dominated because the thing which happens at home are as he says. “You don’t need a license “ “ I’ll take you wherever you want to go” to begin with he says that Yvonne doesn’t need to drive in Japan but later she has to learn to drive in Japan so she can help mother-in-law.
Mother-in-law Mrs. Hamada lives with her husband but she has in mind to divorce because she cant talk with him anymore, he just drinks and plays GO, but one day when he was working, the pain shot trough his arms and chest and Mr. Hamada died of heart attack.
Mrs. Hamada is a woman who interfere much in Ryu and Yvonne’s lives, which is a huge problem for Yvonne because she is not used to that, but she takes it very slowly and are responsive to new ideas and opportunities, it seems to me that she accept the Japanese culture, but she still holds on to her own opinions. When her father-in-law dies, Ryu wants to take care of his mother and therefore he spends a lot of time with her, which means that Yvonne will have to live alone in several days. It seems that Ryu concentrated him a lot of her mother and forgot Yvonne which shows us the love between Ryu and his mother is very strong.

Ryu spends a lot of time with his mother, and Yvonne seems to be a kind of joules, because Ryu want to take his mother to the beauty salon, to the grocery store, to the art museum and she also signed up for lessons in yoga and English conversation and later then she start to driving school and after that she deseeded to go on a tour to Malaysia and she wants to go all over the world. Those things is something Yvonne wants to do but she cant because Ryu’s job kept him busy most of the year, so far most of the trip they had talk about before they sleep were just wishes. Yvonne’s problem is that she is to much concentrated about Mrs. Hamada and her life, and not her own life. Maybe she think that they in Japan has to take care and live with the mother-in-law when her husband dies, because Cousin Kanaco told her that she lives with her mother- in- law, and that thought scare Yvonne because then she has to give up her reading time to drink tea with her mother-in-law.

The main theme in the text is culture. Yvonne and Ryu has first been drawn together by mutual cultural curiosity, because Yvonne is interest in traditional Japanese arts and Ryu love American freedom. Yvonne is a typical American girl who a married with a Japanese who she really love and wants to be with. The only kind of problem is that she has to learn a new culture, which doesn’t mean any thing to their love.
The short story “Age” by Linda Bellos and the poem “So You think you are beautiful” by Becky Ayebia Clarke is about people who looking down on black people and who doesn’t wants to help them. For example in the poem, the big black girl try to get some help from a white girl, but she doesn’t help her on the contrary she provoke her. The white girl knows that they doesn’t have a size 14 but still she ask “Can I help you” just so she can irritate the black girl. The story “Age” is also about not taking care of people but here we hear about the British people who doesn’t care about the elderly as African does, which reminds me about Yvonne and mother-in-law, because Yvonne doesn’t want to take care about her, maybe because the culture is so different, people in Africa and Japan are more close to theirs family than people in British and ex. Danmark, we are used to that the elderly take care of themselves or they get some kind op home help .
