The first text is about a man called Stephen Evans, who works for BBC News. He´s telling us about 9/11, and how he experienced the day while the planes crashed into the towers but also how they collapsed. On a blue morning in the late summer Stephen had arrived a bit early at half-past-eight, because he was going to interview an economist. He was sitting in the lobby passing the time, and reading the New York Times when he suddenly heard a loud thud, like when somebody was slamming a huge iron door. The walls shuddered, and Stephen though it could be an earthquake, but then he though again that I wouldn’t happen in New York. Stephen could see smoke on the piazza, and people streamed through him in the lobby. No one panicked, but peoples just a determined movement away from the troubles, and so did Stephen also. When I got out of the vast lobby, he stopped and stared at the flames and smoke pouring from the top of the tower. He heard people were talking about a plane had crashed into the tower. But Stephen assumed that it must have been some kind of accident. Whatever the cause, Stephen had to call London because he knew that it were a story when a plane had been flying into the World Trade Center. Stephen finally found someone with a phone. A newsagent lend Stephen his phone for free, even though Stephen offered him a credit card. Soon Stephen was broadcasting and, was switching from programme to programme, just to tell what had happened. While Stephen was talking, another plane hit WTC2. The newsagent wants his phone back, and closed the shop. Stephen and the newsagent rushed away together. Stephen needed to find another phone, so he rented a room at the nearby Embassy Suites Hotel. From the room, he could see Vesey Street and a line of ambulances on the way to the northern tower. Stephen was again on the air, and talked with BBC when suddenly was a huge explosion of dust and debris. The 2WTC was collapsing, and the phone died. A voice on the tannoy instructed people to leave. Stephen and the other guests filed down the inner stairwell. The people outside became more chaotic. Stephen didn’t have a phone, so he rushed from crew to crew trying to but their services, and failed. In the end he did a dead with a local television company. He gave them his eyewitness account in return for their doing some filming for him and giving the tape away. While they were recording, the north tower collapsed behind Stephen. The danger suddenly became very real. Stephen remembered thinking: “That cloud is coming at me faster than I can run” so he ran, and luckily the cloud stopped short of him.
