Hej.
When the sun had gone down, it was unusually cold. Despite the fine weather they felt that autumn had arrived. Mr. Morton, who was on his way home in a car after visiting a client, hoped that his hostess(landlady), mrs. Glade, had light a fire in his room.
He couldn’t help but feel proud that he managed to get the old mr. Boyle to sign the contract.
Thoughts flew through his head.

When the sun had gone down, it was unusually cold. Despite the fine weather they felt that autumn had arrived. Mr. Morton, who was on his way home in a car after visiting a client, was hoping that his landlady Mrs. Glade had lit the fireplace in his room. He had eaten/had dinner. The only thing he needed was peace and quiet after a busy day. He knew he could get Mrs. Glade to make him a cup of tea while he looked over his papers.
He couldn’t help feeling proud by the fact that he had gotten old Mr. Boyle to sign the contract. It meant something for the business, and it would mean something for himself too. It all depended on his boss. What if it was empty promises? Action was better.
When he drove down the street where he lived, it was getting dark. The streetlamps tried spreading the darkness but the attempt was in vain. Usually the street was empty but now he realized that a group of people stood on the sidewalk, starring on the houses on the other side. The fire engines were there – and now his eyes caught the thick smoke. There were flames ---
The thoughts rushed through his mind. Mrs. Glade had said she was anxious of a crack in the chimney. She had pondered getting a guy out to look at it.
Mr. Morton felt the sweat on his forehead. Didn’t he himself promise to repair the damage? He had forgotten.
;)
