Nord Irland
North Ireland
The disturbances in North Ireland are characterized by many as civil war, can only be understood, if you know some of the history of Ireland.
In the 17th century thousands of Protestants among many Presbyterians from Scotland were sent over to colonize Ulster. The cleft between the natives and the planters got bigger because they haven’t had the same religion. The Irishmen were not only followed because they were Irish, but also because they were Catholics: Religion and politics were from there on close connected.
In 1689 the Catholic king James the second of England/Great Britain? escaped to Ireland to get protected by his Irish subjects. But at last he was concurred by the Protestants July 12, 1960 at the Battle in Boyne.
Ever since this day has been celebrated with genuine enthusiasm by Irish Protestants, which gather more places in North Ireland. There are arranged meetings and meetings are held, and in speeches and in songs it is emphasized that the Protestants were and still are victors.
