Differences:
The movie begins with Lester Billings is at home and he is at the WC, when he find Shirl dead in the tub. The police come at their home, and have Lester Billings as a suspect.  This is different from the short story,  because the short story begins in Dr. Hapres office  (in media rex ), xxxx Andy was in the movie from the beginning.  Lester Billings is afraid of the closet in Dr. Hapres office. Lester is crying at Dr. Hapres office. Before Andy dies, Lester falls of the steps.  When Dr. Harper takes his mask of, he attacks Lester. Dr. is Boogeyman???. 

Similarities:
There are three children like the short story.  There also is a doctor, and his name is also Harper. When the children scream boogeyman, he moves Shirl into another room. He also talks about,   the episode with his mother, who was overprotected.  When the conversation ends with Dr. Harper, he goes to the nurse for a new appointment, but she isn’t there. Then he goes back to the doctor, and ses that the closet is open, and ses Dr. Harpe takes his mask of.
