DEL 2:

Section A
1.”The commitment to the pleasure” is a short story written by Hanif Kureishi. It is about a dad who takes his twin sons to a rock concert. Being to the concert with his teenage sons he reminisces about his own youth and the music of that time. In his opinion in the past the most talented people went into the music industry which the music something unique with a lot of quality.
He liked like his own sons the pop music and spent a lot of time listening to it. It was something he had in common with most of the boys at his age. In the short history we get the dads thoughts on the British pop music and what it contains and who it addresses. In his opinion the pop music is something multi-cultural which everyone can identify themselves with. Black, yellow, Asian, White, Gay, Hetero. No matter what race or sexuality you belong to, you still can listen to the pop music. It is the revolutionary voice of the unheard.
2.
The view on the pop culture in the first text, “The commitment to the pleasure” is very positive. According to the main character of the text pop music is something that everybody can listen to regardless race, color and sexuality. Pop is something that associates with the British identity more than anything else. According to the text pop has remained the same, simple and direct and something that represents the rebellious revolutionary voice.
The narrator of the second text in some extent agrees with the main character of the first text on his view on pop music.  The narrator describes the pop music of the past something that everybody could listen to without being objected from the contents. But now it has turned into something which looks more like soft pornography than pop music. In his opinion this sexualized generation of pop music is ruining our youth which are the main audience of it. The narrator says that Lady Gaga and Rihanna are the leading figures of this demoralized pop-generation.
The final text agrees with the narrator of the second text that Lady Gaga writes a lot about sex in her lyrics. But it disagree that her intention with the sexual contents of her lyrics is to represent women as sex object. The magazine says that the reason that she sings so much about sex is the opposite of what the narrator of text two claims to be the reason. According to the magazine she sings about sex to clarify that women are more than sex objects. According to the magazine Lady Gaga´s songs help our youth to find their own identities.
3.
I fully agree with this statement that the children nowadays have very easily access to images filled with sexual contents. Nowadays if you want to go on an internet site then you have to go through a lot of video advertisings. Most of the video advertisings contain as much sexual contents as a soft pornographic movie. So watching these kinds of images is not something children do on purpose. It is something the internet forces them to do.
I fully agree that these waves of sexualized images have a damaging effect on children. But I don’t agree that the society finally is realizing which kind of effect these sexual contents possible can have on our children. If the society realized it then there would be some actions taken.
D
Throughout all the generations the youth have been addicted to music. And throughout the history of music different music genres has been popular in different period of times. In the 70s and 80s rock was very popular and in the 90s the new music genre, rap rose to fame. We witnessed what a huge impact the rock music and rap music had on its audience. The ones who listened to these kinds of music adopted the lifestyle that the lyrics were about. Both rock and rap songs were to young people who didn’t “feel home” in the society.  The youth simply formed their identity with help of the lyrics of the songs they listened to and the artists who made the songs.
Nowadays it is neither something unusual that the youth want to identify themselves with the songs they listen to. The most of the young people considers the singers of the songs they listen to as their role models. Therefore they do everything to be like their role models. If their role models drink and take drug then they also will do it. We are witnessing how young girls at the age of ten to fourteen try to be like Rihanna or Lady Gaga by drinking and having a careless attitude toward the society.  If this generation of young girls continues to look up to the likes of Lady Gaga and Rihanna as their role models then we are going to have a very dark future.
