Nogle der kan rette noget engelsk??
Hej Alle!
Har været igang med en engelsk stil længe, og langt om længe er den færdig. Nogen der kan rette den for fejl?
Today there is many different ways to get peoples vote to the election campaigns. The candidates uses election posters, making some speeches, handing out folders etc. But one of the most used method of choice is speeches. In this assignment I will write about Barack Obama’s announcement for president.
The speech is by Barack Obama, who is Americans present president. It is in Springfield the 10th February the speech is finding place. He’s talking to the American people. He had made this speech before the presidential in 2008, for announce that he wants to stand as the democrats’ candidate. He’s starting out by saying thank you to all the people who’ve show up. He talks a lot about what he thinks that America can become and what they have accomplished in the past. He emphasizes it particularly by highlighting the former president, Abraham Lincoln (P. 76 l. 32-41). When he references to Lincoln, he also refer to that time where it didn’t go so well for America. He’s saying that the people have been in a crisis, which looked just as bleak, as they stand right now. He tries to remind the people that Abraham Lincoln also went through this adversity and defeat, but that he kept on fighting and he succeeds. He tells about his own story. After his own story, he tells the people that he wants to become the president of The United States. He wants the people to be the new generation, which can lift America up again. He wants better school system and he wants to stop the poverty. Obama ends his speech by telling the people that he will win the election for justice and opportunity. He will gain a better school system and better jobs for all. All this because in order to build a new America.
Obama uses anaphora to engage the listeners even more: “In the face of war, you believe there […] In the face of despair, you believe there […] In the face of politics […]” (P. 74 L. 12-14). At this point he use them to emphasize, that even though it looks dark and look like it’s impossible, there will always be hope. In his anaphora’s, he also uses antithesis: “In the face of war, you believe there can be peace. In the face of despair, you believe there is hope.” (P. 74 L. 12-14) Obama do also use a polyptoton: “It was here we learned to disagree without being disagreeable that it’s possible to compromise so long as you know those principles that can never be compromised […](P. 75 L. 29-31). Throughout his speech, Obama uses a lot of pathos. One example of pathos is when he at the beginning was explaining the background of how he ended up in Illinois. He explains, that when he moved to Illinois he knew no one, he was young and that he had no money or family (P. 74 L. 21-23). He tries to make the people feel sorry for him. Another type of appeal that Obama uses is ethos. Obama refers to the former president, Abraham Lincoln a few times, and how he agrees with how Lincoln went about running the country during his time as president. This type of rhetoric helps in persuading people onto Obamas side, because they liked how Abraham Lincoln rant the country, and therefore they will like how Obama will run the country, if he also ends up as president. The last type of appeal Obama uses in his speech is logos. Almost in the end of his speech Obama says: “Every four years, candidates from both parties make similar promises” (P. 79 L. 40-41). He says that after the election is over, those promises are never kept. He says the thing with logic and reason.
Obama uses his speech as a way to persuade the American people that he should become the next president. In the major part Obama explains about the things he will change in America, and what he wants to make better. Most of the things he wants to focus on are because he had fight through it in his own past. For example he wants to fight against the poverty, change the school system etc. Therefor he starts most of his sentences by saying “let’s be the generation, that…”, for persuade the people that it’s this topics he wants to change. If people want to take part of this and help, will he as ‘president’ promise that it will happen one day. But is it true, does nobody know, because he says at P. 79 L. 39… that there is given to many promises which has never been kept, but as an exception he doesn’t forget the things he promise.
In conclusion Barack Obama gave a good thought out in his speech to the American people. He has the ethic and trustworthiness to be the new president, but just has to show it. The statements he makes is all some that could only have been made by a person, who really knew what’s going on, and by a person who had a real love for the future of America. It was a very successful speech, which appealed to many American views.
Mange tak på forhånd! :)
