En konservativ minister blev for nylig kritiseret i hele den britiske presse, da han antydede, at det var de fattiges egen skyld, at deres kost var så elendig, og at de selv måtte gøre en indsats for at finde en sund kost til rimelige priser. Problemet er, at så få briter har lært noget som helst om ernæring. En kommunalbestyrelse i Skotland har nu vedtaget at uddanne sine indbyggere til at spise sundere. Et medlem af kommunalbestyrelsen udtaler til avisen The Independent: »Hvis man nævner sund kost for folk her i området, tror de, at der er tale om slankekure. Det er et gammeldags samfund, men det er på tide at ændre folks holdning. Hvis man har råd til at købe kager og Coca-cola, har man også råd til at købe frugt og grøntsager.«

A conservative minister was recently criticised by the whole press corps in Britain, when he indicated that it were the poor peoples own fault that their diet are so bad, and that they have to make an effort to find a healthy diet at fair prices. The problem is that only few Britons have learned about nutrition. A municipal council in Scotland has now decided to educate their inhabitants in eating more reasonable. A member of the council says to the paper The Independent: »If you mention the phrase “healthy cost” to the people in this neighbourhood, they will think that it is about diet. It is an old neighbourhood, but now it is time to change the attitude of these people. If you have the money to buy cakes and Coca-Colas, then you will also have the money to buy fruits and vegetables.«
