Jeg har lavet et resume af en short story, men har brug for hjælp, da den er fuld af fejl. Jeg håber at der er nogen af jer der er friske på at hjælpe mig med at gøre resuméet bedre:
The short story ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ is written in 1991. It’s a speech to the parents on the ship, to explain them why they are going to the island of Tranquility and show sympathy with them. The American story takes place on a sun-warmed January on a ship called S.S. Ariel. All of the passengers on the ship are in a “retirement” age. On the ship the captain is holding a speech to the parents. ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’ is told by the captain. He starts out with bringing them welcome but the topic turns suddenly into a serious speech about their future. Their captain explains why they are going to this island. The weather and animals on the island will kill them sooner or later.
He has sympathetic to their situation which he also proclaims.
The parents age are from the late fifties to the mid-nineties and their children are now adults. It’s the children who have decided the cruise trip for their parents. The real reason is not the make them happy though but to get rid of them, so that they will not have to wait for their inheritance any longer. It’s pointless to protest because the decision cannot be changed.
It’s the ships last trip to the island and that is the reason why the ships conditions are so poor. For example the toilets that is out of order, the poor service, the bad food and the over-price.
