Dear Mary
It was really disappointing to visit London again after so many years. I am sure that London and Rome are in competing to be the most boring capital in Europe. You might wonder that it has come this far, when you think about that London was the center of the world in the swinging ‘60s – think on Carnaby Street and the Rolling Stones. There is no doubt that the famous English Sunday which is the boringness itself has been broad to the rest of the days in the week. No you say that everyday is a Sunday in London.
I am disappointed that there is not longer possible to get a good cop of tea or a good meal. It is caused by that you are must be lucky to find a “real” English restaurant. Off course it is nice that the traditional English pub still exists.
As tourist you is surprised that there this time is just as dirty in the subway as last. There is apparently no one to take care of that dirt and rubbish are removed. In spite of that the subway transportates several hundred people to and from work daily, it does not seems like it has been modernized since the war. I am sure that the subway is one of the most uncomfortable and worn-down places in the world.
It was a chock to see the old elegant districts as FX Kensington. They are invaded by people from the Middle East. The fronts of the houses peel off, the cornices falls down, and through the windows without curtains you catch sight of Arabians, who lies on mattresses while they are smoking and holds palaver from the morning to the afternoon and the night with.
Well, no more pessimistic considerations about London – I look forward to visit you.
Love Joan
