Marjorie is the main character in this story. She lives on the nineteenth floor, with only herself and her lovely animal, namely the fishes. Except staring at the fish, Marjorie looks through the big glass in her apartment, which replace one of the walls. She looks down at the people walking and the cars moving. She thinks they look like ants and maybe she compare herself with God, when she standing there and have control and overview of the situation. I will consider her as a reserved person who does not talk with a lot of people. Marjorie is a lonely and devastated girl, she can’t get a normal life when she acting like she does. She has a lot of trouble with a guy from the community scheme, which doesn’t treat her nicely. The guy from the social services terrorised her psychical and she build a “mountain” of hate inside her body, that all went out at once. She is a psychical sick person whose been left behind. In the end it is very clear she got a seriously problem, when she feeded the
Pirate fish with the social workers hand. After the fish has eaten the hand she goes out in the kitchen and served some tea to herself and the social worker. That is not normal; she is a main jack that cannot control the life of her. I think she is terrified to watch the real world and that is why she has this enormous glass-wall in her apartment, she wanted to be like the fishes. Live inside an aquarium and be taken care of. If you are a fish, you do not have to worry about getting food, making friends etc. Marjorie is such a frightened girl, which behaviour reflecting in her feelings and thoughts.
