In a dark lighted room several of common red painted pictures are exposed. Beneath one of the large picture lays three little children dressed in red school uniforms. They have probably chosen to draw after this picture because it is one of the easiest in the exhibition to reconstruct. The picture is only painted in one colour: red, and except from this plain red there is another, a little bit darker, red which forms a frame in the picture.
At the first sight the picture to me is dreadfully boring, and as the schoolchildren has discovered awfully close to something a child could have painted.
The picture makes me think about who really decides what art is? And as me thoughts begins to wonder, I notice other kinds of shapes in the huge red picture. There are different elements of light and dark in the painting. Some of the red shades have a frightening effect on me, they are aggressive and dangerous, others are unlike very coming, but also a little bit depressing because of the non existing light elements. The dark red frame makes the picture have a 3D impact on me; it makes the picture absorb the room and I am being drawn into the painting - In to a world of different shapes. In the left corner the different shades of red forms the head of an elephant and in the bottom of the painting is a shape which I cannot decide if it is the right side of and hart or and ear. I look to my left and notice several of other people admire the painting, do they see and ear or a part of a hart? Then my thoughts are interrupted by a cockney accent which owner is pointing at my elephanthead and says “it almost look like a car”.
The picture is much like a psychologists ink blots; it shows different images depending on its viewer. I conclude to my thirst question that art is a very subjective experience; it is only art if someone looks at it and sees art.
