In text 1 “Time’s Person of the year: You” by Lev Grossman technology is indirectly seen as the factor that brings the humankind together. Technology is viewed as being part of our daily life, but mostly as being the innovating key factor that unites the humankind virtually through community websites, which makes each person unique in our own way, because we can participate online in almost everything. Technology is not something a scientist invents and then we use it, it’s a request-and-get thing where peoples thirst for technology and innovation will push the scientists to make the product. But in the end it’s “the people” who are going to use it and determine if the developed piece of technology is useable.
A clear contrast to all mentioned views in text 1 is text 3 “Technology Is No Substitute” by Thomas Trimble, where a 73-year-old pensioner George vies technology as overblown. He then compares his generations’ promise of low-cost energy, due to atomic energy, with that of computers. George doesn’t see the future in computers and don’t view the online social communication - which it provides - as being beneficial for the human race, which is the complete opposite view to the text “Time’s Person of the year: You”. The text “Technology: The next generation” by Stephanie Hall-Sturgiss is a story of the modern family who, in comparison with “Time’s Person of the year: You”, have followed the development and the innovation, and even their little son is following the “trend”. This maybe has to do with their age and the fact that Phil is into computers where as George from “Technology Is No Substitute” is a much older gentleman who has no real insight to the computers potential. George’s age perhaps make him dislike technology, simply because he doesn’t have the capability to figure out how it works. But Phil wants his son to see technology as a natural part of life, because that’s the way of the future.

Text 3 “Technology Is No Substitute” is written by Thomas Trimble, who interprets a 73-year-old pensioner, named George, and his view towards technology. Thomas starts out interpreting his quotation from George, and then to confirm that his analysis is correct he encloses the original quotation from George in the text. The entire structure is very well balanced, and is chronological well balanced. The text is an article which is based on a small interview with George; whose tone is very light but still very pessimistic towards technology. It’s a very opened and calm atmosphere with no tension between Thomas and George, mainly because Thomas remains very objective in his analysis. The used language is easy and simple to read, and there are not really used any words which are difficult to interpret and that goes as well for the text itself.

In the past years the innovation and technology has gone so fast, that some things are outdated months after it’s released. We now live in a world where technology dictates our way of life and our understanding of each others happens digitally. One of the greatest technologies is without a doubt the invention of the World Wide Web, which has brought people all over the world together like never before. Normal – everyday working average Joe - people are no longer isolated from the world, and can now get in contact with the rest of the world just by clicking on the keypad. People are able to communicate in social activities and sped time learning about things that they find interesting.
Technology makes room for human improvement, development, engineering and greatness, in the sense that it helps us in our daily life and makes the day go much smoother then it otherwise would. But there are also some huge negative consequences of technology, mainly for people who can’t utilize the technology or simply can’t afford to follow the technology trend, which furthermore could isolate the weak people in society, and perhaps leave them behind socially and economically, simply because they can’t follow the insanely quick tempo which technology is applying to every one - more and more things are done over the internet. But even though technology has its disadvantages and advantages, the advantages are clearly more sufficient, substantial and clearly overweigh the disadvantages of technology.
