Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf

The text which I am about to analyse is called “Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf”.
The poem deals with problems that can arise when a child go from childhood to adulthood.

Little Red Riding Hood is a famous fairytale about a young girl's encounter with a wolf. The story has changed considerably in its history, since the first version written by the famous brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.
In the original version of the story it is about a girl called Little Red Riding Hood, after the red cape and hood she wears. The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sick grandmother, but a wolf wants to eat the girl. He approaches the girl, and she naively tells him where she is going. He suggests the girl to pick some flowers, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother's house and pretends to be the girl. He swallows the grandmother whole, and waits for the girl. When the girl arrives, he swallows her too. Then a hunter comes to the rescue the grandmother and Little Red Riding Hood. Then they fill the wolf's body with heavy stones, which kills him.
In Roald Dahl’s story the girl is still wearing red clothes; “….the little girl in red”. But in Dahl’s story the wolf are not talking to the girl and he do not get the details of where the grandmother life from the girl, but instead he is going directly to the house when he wants; “As soon the Wolf began to feel that he would like a decent meal, he went and knocked on Grandmas door”. This tells us that the Wolf knows where the grandmother life. When the Wolf has eaten the grandmother he is still hungry and then he waits for Little Red Riding Hood to come. He dress up like the grandmother to fool Little Red Riding Hood to think that he is her grandmother, and when Little Red Riding Hood is arrived she ask the wolf about his ears, eyes and the furry coat that he wears. But the wolf gets angry because the girl have forgotten to ask him about his teeth, and in the same time as the Wolf is going to eat Little Red Riding Hood, she pulls a gun and shoots the wolf in his head. And then in the end Little Red Riding Hood is running around in the forest in a wolf skin coat.
Little Red Riding Hood are not as innocent in Dahl’s story, unlike the original version of Little Red Riding Hood where she unaware of the dangers. She is more strong and independent, whereas she is weak and has to be rescued in some of the other stories. The Wolf is weaker in Dahl’s version and he gives in for his desire. The language of the poem is bit more informal unlike typical fairytales where the level of formality is on a medium level. The text is more informal then usual because the text is written with more foreign word and there are not as many old words as usual in fairytales because it is a poem. The tone in the poem is very positive through the whole story even though the progresses are not very positive; “He sat there and smiled. He thought, I’m going to eat this child...”
